DIY Custom Block Print Art Framing
We've been playing around with easy, inexpensive ways to frame our custom block printed wall art and we're getting some results that we think are worth sharing. As most of us know, framing art can get pretty pricey. While the results from the professionals are beautiful, we've come up with some hacks to get something just as great, for over half the price! See our tips below.
Start with Handmade Art
We have over six prints to choose from in our shop and any of our (over 100) fabric patterns can be made into custom art as well. They key element here is that if your starting point is a piece of art that is high quality, one of a kind and made by hand, it will look elegant no matter how you choose to frame it.
Keep the Frame Neutral
For our experiment we chose Ikea's Hovsta 16" x 20" Birch Frame to frame our small 13" x 19" Raga Black Print. The frame runs for $12.99 and our small Raga print is just $90.00. That means you could have your custom print framed and ready to go for a little over $100.00, such a steal compared to other wall art on the market. We chose Hovsta in Birch for its clean, modern and elegant feel. See how an interior designer used a similar Ikea frame for our art in a recent renovation below.
Mandy Riggar used Ikea's 16" x 20" Fiskbo frame (only $5.99) in white to frame our 13" x 19" Aspen Indigo Prints for her recent bathroom renovation. You would never know that the frame was on the cheaper side, as the finished result looks so amazing. The key takeaway here is to stick to a neutral frame color. Neutrals are always elegant and keeping it neutral allows the focus to be on the art.
The Results: DIY vs. Professional
Here's the finished DIY result of our Raga Black Print in Ikea's Hovsta Birch Frame. Not bad at all for $12.99!
And here is our DIY Ikea framed Raga Print next to a professionally framed Aspen Print. We think the results are pretty comparable. What do you think? DIY or professional?
